Celebrating a Graduation

My precious niece recently graduated from Kindergarten. Which was no small feat on her part (or my mom's).

This little, sweet munchkin doesn't have a mother who read to her or worked on letters and numbers.

She has a mother who tells her that her short hair makes her look like a boy.

Real winner, huh?

So a graduation from Kindergarten is a testament to the work my mom has done with her.

Homework at night. Learning letters and putting them into words. Afternoons when Aunt Mrs. Potts runs over after work to spend time with her (& my sweet nephew too) and practice the words of the week and counting.

Did you know hopscotch can be a great tool for number recognition? She's really good at it.

So to celebrate her big accomplishment Mr. Potts and I took her Sunday afternoon for a movie.

Marmaduke was the movie on tap for just the three of us, along with a kid's treat of popcorn, gummy candy and Mr. Pibb.

She loved it. We loved it. We love her.

From our Easter Egg hunt this year.

How could you NOT love them?

Such a great Aunt. Yes, that would be hard to have a mother like your niece does. They are very lucky to you have, your mom and Mr. Potts in their lives.

OH, SO exciting!
I Know exactly how you feel! My mom and dad went away for 2 days last week for their anniversary, and it ended up being the day my niece gave her presentation on a book she wrote (1st grade). My mom went the day before to get a peak, but not the day All the parents would be there. MY mom was nervous her parents would not show and asked me to go be there! I Went and I WAS amazed. She was so excited to show me her book/report and it was a research project! She used books from the library to find the info on Dolphins and I was so impressed and proud of her...and I KNOW it is my mom who got her where she is!
Happy Graduation to your niece!

They are adorable! You know, I used to have really short hair like her when I was little. My mom always loved my hair short because it was easy and fit well with my personality. I think it looks adorable on her. But I remember someone called me a "little boy" once, and it really hurt my feelings... what a horrible thing!

Kindergarten is a big step... yay for her! :) She's a doll.

Hey sweetie, your sweet niece's graduation was as much of an accomplishment for her as it was a celebration for you, Mr. Potts, your mom, and they are lucky little kiddos to have such loving people in their lives. I can't believe that anyone could ever tell that beautiful child that she looks like a boy. They are so blessed to have you, and I know you know that, I just wanted to tell you again I admire you all. Sounds like such a fun afternoon at the movies!! xoxo

Awwww....I just found your blog (Via Brittnay's Living in the Moment blog) - and I have to say I can totally relate to what you are saying about your niece. I have that same sort of relationship with my little nephew. It's crazy and sometimes so frustrating - but I wouldn't trade the time I get to spend with him for anything.

Congrats to her (you and your mom) for graduating kindergarten!!!
