An ode to Pepe le Pew

Isn't he handsome?

Pepe Cat is such a handsome fellow, but do you see all that hair? All that long, orange hair?

When I rescued him, I had no intention of having a long haired cat. Actually, when I rescued him, I had no intention of owning a cat.

Yet he followed people back through the snow to our office. When I held him, I felt each rib bone, his jaw bones & his spine - he was so skinny.

I knew that if they put him back outside he wouldn't make it. So I did what any owner of a 150lb Great Dane would do. I decided I would keep him.

Off we went to the vet for shots and a bath. Yes, you read that correctly. A bath.

This poor cat was so smelly, it was as if he'd been living in a sewer. Which could have been very close to the truth.

He was so dirty that his hair was twisted into spikes. I had just decided to adopt a kitty with catlocks (kind of like dreadlocks, but for a cat). And he was brown.

Now, scroll back up. Yes, he is orange in the picture. That is how dirty he was!

Now, the vet told me that they didn't bathe cats, that I could wrap him in a wet towel & he'd clean himself in a week or so. I explained that Maddy would only think I'd brought her home a special treat.

Needless to say, he got his bath.

But what to name him?

My roommate at the time suggested Pepe. Short for Pepe le Pew. Which was quite fitting. Since he smelled as pleasant as a skunk.

And it fit. And so he was named. Only, his name has morphed into Pepe Cat.

Or Mr. Fuzzles, Furry Butt, Fluffy Love, Mr. McFluffster....you get the point, right?

Only now, my little fluffy Pepe Cat is sick. He's been throwing up every day for the last week & a half. We took him to the vet where they anesthetized him, x-rayed him, tested his blood & then told us they couldn't find anything wrong.

So we're trying to calm his tummy to help him get better.

Which means he now eats Fancy Feast (you know, to get the medicine down).

So now, you may call him Mr. Fancy Feast Fluffy Luffy.
Or just plain Pepe Cat will do.

He is a gorgeous cat and so lucky to have found you as his human!!!

I'm sorry he's sick. Our cat Fritz went through something similar a couple of years ago. Every time he threw up it was black. They never found anything wrong and it just went away. Hopefully he gets over his bug soon too.

XOXO

Aww, he is so cute! My newest phase is calling our cats "Chunk of Grey" and "Chunk of Black". It usually comes out sounding like "chunkagrey" and "chunkablack" and is spoken in several octaves higher than hubs would care for. HA!

So Pepe, to me, is Chunk of Orange!

I hope he gets better soon, still no word on my cats at home, Flash and Piglet. I'll be keeping all three kitties in my thoughts, hoping they all get better with the quickness!

oh no. What a sweet story. Pepe is such a lucky cat and certainly hit the jackpot in being picked for the Potts family.

Praying that he feels better soon. Keep us posted.

Are you home this week or away?

I love that you rescued him! Our pets are all rescues too. I'm sorry he's not feeling well, I hope he gets all better soon! He's way too cute to have to deal with a yucky stomach bug.

aw he is sooo cute! :( I'm sorry he's sick. One of our cats was doing the same thing a few months back - throwing up sort of like a white foamy spit. Gross, I know. Eventually, it just cleared up. The vet said it can happen if they have a cold - it's like phlegm. Gross, huh? :) She said that wet food does help because it keeps their airway from getting too dry & helps keep them hydrated!

poor little guy! He's adorable! We used to have a cat with very similar coloring, he was one of my favorites! The kids named him Fred after our pastor... *smirk*
